Key Events

• On May 16, joint forces led by the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) successfully captured the Mawkyi Lu camp in Hlaing Bwe Township, Karen State.
• On May 20, the Arakan Army (AA) took control of the Mindat Taung camp from the Military Council in Kyaukphyu Township, Rakhine State.
• A major arson campaign in the Magway Region resulted in the destruction of 406 civilian homes, accounting for nearly 80% of all houses burned nationwide this week.
• The military conducted 131 airstrikes, with Mandalay Region and Ayeyarwady Region facing the most intense aerial assaults at 52 and 27 strikes respectively.
• On May 16, the Military Council's election commission established a date for upcoming elections, a move that continues to be rejected by the general public and civil society groups.
