Resistance forces intensified attacks on military junta positions and election registration activities across central and northern Myanmar, while the SAC responded with heavy arson campaigns and alleged chemical weapon use in Sagaing. Broad-based boycotts of the upcoming junta-led elections continued to gain momentum alongside military engagements in 11 regions and states.
Key Events
- March 14: A prison riot occurred at Nyaungshwe Prison in Taunggyi, Shan State, resulting in the death of one political prisoner and injuries to ten others.
- March 18: Over 40 SAC soldiers were killed and 30 injured during a significant clash with PDF forces between Magyi Kalat and Kawt Kamar villages in Kyainseikgyi township, Kayin State.
- March 19: SAC troops burned down 269 houses and a monastery in Tha Ma Yoe village, Wetlet township, Sagaing Region, during a major arson raid.
- March 20: Resistance forces reported that SAC troops used chemical weapons following a heavy weapons attack on the Northwestern military headquarters in Monywa, Sagaing Region.
- March 21: The National League for Democracy (NLD) officially announced its decision not to re-register as a political party under the military council's new election laws.
