Military
The first week of February saw intense military activity across central and northern Myanmar, with the military junta intensifying its reliance on aerial assaults as resistance forces caused significant casualties among SAC troops. Arson attacks were particularly severe in the Tanintharyi Region, which accounted for the vast majority of civilian homes destroyed during this period.
Key Events
- Massive arson campaigns in Tanintharyi Region resulted in the destruction of 110 civilian houses, the highest count recorded across all regions.
- Sagaing Region was the primary target of the Military Commission's aerial campaign, enduring 23 out of the week's 63 total airstrikes.
- A major crackdown in Magway Region led to the arrest of 41 civilians, accounting for more than half of the total arrests nationwide.
- Kachin State emerged as the most active front for ground combat, recording 14 separate military engagements between the SAC and resistance forces.
- Heavy fighting in Bago Region resulted in 47 SAC soldier fatalities, one of the deadliest regional tolls for the military junta this week.
