Sagaing Region remains the center of intense conflict and junta atrocities, accounting for the vast majority of child fatalities and arson attacks. Resistance forces demonstrated increased capabilities this week, including the reported downing of a military helicopter in Karenni State and high-casualty bombings of junta administrative sites.
Key Events
- On June 30, the Karenni National People’s Liberation Front (KNPLF) reportedly shot down a junta attack helicopter near the Thai-Myanmar border in Bawlakhe Township.
- A major junta air strike on Nyaung Kone village in Pale Township, Sagaing, killed one monk and eight civilians on June 27.
- On June 29, a bomb attack targeting the police station general office in Wetlet town, Sagaing Region, resulted in the deaths of 17 SAC soldiers, including army officers.
- A surgical attack by SAC troops on a resistance camp near Indaw village in Sagaing Township on June 25 resulted in the deaths of 12 PDF members.
- Massive arson operations in Wetlet Township between June 28 and 30 saw the destruction of over 310 houses in Ngar Pet Chaung and Tha Yet Pin Sate villages.
